Friday Five – blog

# *Explain why you started to journal/blog.* I started a few times and the main reason was to have a reason to code some HTML. I would design a layout and then never update the pages. In 2000, I needed to make a portfolio for my Education class. I could have used the scrapbook method, but thought it would be easier and more impressive if I made an online portfolio. The design was pretty simple and most of the entries were just refections on my student teaching experiences and some writing exercises that I had to do for my English class. The teacher was impressed and I got a pretty good mark. After I finished the class, I continued to maintain the website and update a little more frequently.
# *Do people you interact with day to day or family members know about your journal/blog? Why or why not?* My family and friends know about my site and some read it. I have nothing to hide, and few viewers if I didn’t have friends and family reading it. I do try to hide it from co-workers and students. I don’t think most of the things I write would be a problem if my site was discovered, but it’s best to be safe.
# *Do you have a theme for your journal/blog?*
I don’t have a specific theme. I wouldn’t be able to stick with any theme for too long. I had this same problem when I hosted a radio show. When it was an all Canadian show, I wanted to play anything but Canadian. If my website has any theme it is simply to document my life. I’m always interested to look back and see where or what I was doing in years past. So my list of recent music, movies and books are not only to recommend good music, books or movies to friends, but also to act as a record of my past.
# *What direction would you like to have your journal/blog go in over the next year?* I’m hoping that I start to take more photos after we move. It’s a poor excuse, but it just seems like there is nothing to photograph here.
# *Pimp five of your favourite journals/blogs.* I guess you should just look at my links.
